MariLouise "Kit" Hubbard

August 9, 1955 — April 12, 2025

MariLouise “Kit” Hubbard began her earthly pilgrimage on August 9, 1955 with her parents, Robert and Charlotte Taylor in Dayton, OH. MariLouise had a strong set of positive values and walked with abiding faith. In response to her Master’s call, she completed her journey on this side of eternity on April 12, 2025.

She was raised by her grandparents, Robert and Ida Young. She graduated from St. Joseph Commercial High School in Dayton, OH class of 1973. Her post high school education culminated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Cincinnati and a Master of Science in Education from Miami University in Oxford, OH.

MariLouise married Darryl Edwards and God blessed their union with the birth of a son, Matthew. Darryl preceded her in death; after which, MariLouise and Leon Hubbard were united in holy matrimony. MariLouise and Wayne Miller were united in marriage.

MariLouise’s professional career in education spanned 47 years. She taught English, Language Arts, and Mathematics in the Winton Woods City School District for seven years prior to beginning 26 years of service teaching English and Language Arts and Mathematics in the Sycamore Community Schools. Following retirement, she continued service in classrooms as a substitute teacher in the Sycamore Community and Indian Hill, Districts; and she taught summer school in Loveland City Schools. Additionally, she served as a proctor for students completing SAT and ACT exams in those districts, including Mason School District. Mari’s love for learning was evident in her commitment to excellence, the high standards and expectations she set for students, her dedication to admonishing students to excel, and the seeds of knowledge she planted in their minds. She modeled what she wanted to see in her students, she helped them achieve at their potential, and she didn’t allow failure to be an option for them. MariLouise’s mission was to accomplish “her purpose” – to help students learn. With the exception of a few short weeks when her health declined her dedication spanned the length of her days. The support she received from her students and colleagues reflect the value of the service she gave. In addition to her career in education, MariLouise also enjoyed working with colleagues at her part time job in sales at Snooty Fox.

Family vacation times were cherished memory making opportunities for MariLouise. Her final vacation, just a few weeks prior to departing this life, was a trip to her favorite vacation spot in Nashville, TN. Accompanied by her son and a special friend, she enjoyed a stay at the Opryland Hotel, shopping, and sightseeing.

Kit embraced Christianity wholeheartedly and exemplified its teachings through her actions. Her life was a testament to the kindness, generosity, and love that Christ taught, and she lived it daily. Faith was the cornerstone of her life, prayer was the source of her strength, and Jesus was the Lord of her life. She was a valued member of Hope Church. Her genuine worship of the Lord was an encouragement to those around her, she was a profound gift to the pastors and staff at Hope as she went about shining the light of Jesus in her interactions with and encouragement to them. Kit helped her church family navigate conversations about racial unity with love, beauty, and grace. Kit warmly welcomed others to the Hope family and showed them how much God loves them by modeling His love for them. She occupied a special place in the hearts of her GPS Community with whom she met weekly on Sunday mornings. MariLouise lived to serve others.

More important than how she lived is where she lived. She lived in Christ. Those who choose to live in Him, are blessed in death because they die in Him!

Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”

“Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” Rev. 14:13 (NIV)

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Ida Young,  her mother and father, Charlotte and Robert  Taylor and her husband, Leon Hubbard.

MariLouise’s legacy of service and love will continue in the lives of those left to cherish her memory; Her son, Matthew; grandson, Dionis; her Bonus children, Stephona, Darryl, and Nicholas Hubbard;brothers, William M. Green, Eric (Jennifer) Colter and David Colter; aunts, Delores Smith, Alice Ditto; uncle, James Ditto; brothers-in-law, Gene (Barbara) Hubbard and Demetrius Griffin Drake Edwards; sisters-in-law, Sandra Flowers, Patrice Presley, Rosemary (Kenneth) Holder, Sherry Griffin, and Deborah Robertson; cousins, Allison, Andrea, Ashlyn, Courtney, Aspen, Harriet, and a host of grandchildren , great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; along with a very special friend, Lynne Harris.
